Al-Quds University
Established in 1984 through a merger between four existing separate colleges, Al-Quds University offers 100 distinctive bachelor’s and master’s programs, in 13 different faculties, as well as being home to the only Palestinian Medical School.
It also houses a Center of Regional Studies (Arab, Israeli, American, European and Asian Studies), a Math Museum (the first of its kind in the Arab World) and the Science Museum (the fifth of its kind in the Arab World).
The University also houses the Abu Jihad Museum for Palestinian Prisoner's Studies, the first museum and research center in the world that focuses on Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, as well as on intellectual activities, handicrafts, embroideries and many other products.
As the only Arab University in Jerusalem and the leader of cultural, intellectual and educational life, Al-Quds is home to well-known lecturers and academics from world-wide universities that are part of 500 academic staff members.
The University’s 12,000 students are offered degrees in fields ranging from law to I.T.
AQU main campus in Abu Dis, which is more than 50 acres, extends across the municipal boundary of Jerusalem and houses most of the faculties. However, the University has campuses and centers throughout Jerusalem in Beit Hanina and Sheikh Jarrah, including community service programs and research institutes within the old city walls.
The University is run by an independent board of trustees, which oversees the work of a number of academic, administrative boards and councils. The University is registered as a non-profit organization in the Palestinian Authority. The University's accounts are audited by the international accounting Firm of Ernst & Young.
The University has gained recognition by international, Arab and Islamic Association of Universities.
