Alfanar

Alfanar is an Arab charitable foundation that supports enterprising organisations in the region with the financial support they need to implement their projects, and the advice and expertise that allows them to fulfil their social objectives while becoming more financially independent.

Tarek Ben Halim founded Alfanar. He believed that organisations needed to become more financially independent in order to fulfil the long-term objectives of their communities, thus founding the first venture philanthropy in the region.

The organisations and leaders Alfanar supports work on reducing poverty, improving the quality of education, widening access to health care and assisting individuals to access their social, economic and human rights. In all cases, Alfanar partners with organisations which encourage the active participation of their stakeholders - not as beneficiaries, but as rights holders.

Founded in 2004, Alfanar currently works in Egypt and will gradually expand into other Arab countries.
