WA Finalist in the 2010 EFC Photo Competition "Working in Partnership”
Welfare Association has been named one of the ten finalists in the 2010 European Foundation Centre (EFC) Photo Competition “Working in Partnership’’. The photo competition organized by the 200 members of the EFC will choose photos that illustrate, in an original and visually pleasing manner, what lies at the heart of the participating foundation’s work.
This year’s theme is “Working in Partnership”, the pictures selected show what foundations have achieved by joining forces with other organizations. To work together towards a common goal means having a bigger impact on people’s lives than an organization would have had working alone. Foundations contribute to improving social conditions, in myriad different ways, through the funding of concrete projects or through successful partnerships.
Welfare Association participated with a picture of a project in Shufat Refugee Camp in Jerusalem. The goal of the project is to improve children’s school performance through rectifying learning environment by providing socio-psychological support. The picture was taken in November 2009 by Rula Halawani, it was one of 2 photos submitted by Welfare Association.
The photo will be displayed at the Foundation Week in Brussels, Belgium on May 31st- June 4th 2010. During the conference, which will take place between 2nd and 4th June, all delegates will be given the chance to vote for their favorite photo. The winning photo will then be announced at the closing plenary of the Conference.
It is worth mentioning that this is the second time Welfare Association has been named one of the finalists in the EFC Photo Competition. The first time was in 2007 EFC Competition “Every Picture Tells a Story’’ when Welfare Association participated with a picture taken in Twayell village, one of 45 unrecognized Bedouin villages in Naqab in 48 areas.
